Mitt Romney Accuses John McCain of Nixon-like behavior

If we could only be so lucky.

Those that watched the California Republican debate witnessed a glorified cat fight between Mitt Romney and John McCain with Ron Paul and Mike Huckabee having front row seats. When the dust was settled Mitt Romney said of John McCain: his latest attack "was reminiscent of the Nixon era."

What's interesting to know is that Mitt Romney's father, George Romney, ran against Richard Nixon and lost during the 1968 primaries. Mitt Romney's father was a contributor to this "Nixon era" he speaks of.

During the '68 primary, Nixon an Romney became bitter rivals. Nixon ended up rising to the top and a bitter Romney refused to release his delegates to Nixon at the RNC that year; a "Nixon era" move. In spite of it, Nixon appointed Moderate-Republican Romney to Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. During this time Romney and Nixon's relationship remained dynamic and ultimately ended with Romney quitting in '72 over a small squabble between the two. Following that he never again sought public office. You see Mitt's father was not a member of the silent majority but that of a blue blooded minority.

Last night's debate left Dr. Paul's words resonating in my head: 'this is what our foreign policy discourse has come down to? Squabbling over words said years ago. '

John McCain is no Richard Nixon, I assure you of that.
